Repertoire
Each pianist must present at least three different pieces. One from each of the three following categories:
The Category 1 piece must not exceed a maximum duration of 5 minutes.
The Category 2 piece must last 7 – 12 minutes.
The Category 3 piece may have any duration, but not exceed 12 minutes.
The faculty and artistic director of the festival will decide which of these pieces will be played in the final concert in the Berlin Philharmonie according to programming consideration and quality of performances in the Masterclasses and lessons. Of course, longer pieces can also be additionally presented in the repertoire application. These are not absolutely necessary but can be considered for Masterclasses and lessons.
Video Application
To apply to take part in BiPM 2025, sending a video of your own playing is required.
1. This video must show the current level of playing and must not have been recorded earlier than in the last 3 months before the application.
2. The video must have good sound and video quality so that the playing can be clearly listened to and seen.
3. The pianist’s hands must be visible at all times while playing and his whole profile must be shown.
4. The video must have a minimum length of 12 minutes and may not exceed 20 minutes.
5. At least two different pieces by two different composers from two different eras must be played.
6. The pieces in the video can also be used for the repertoire for the BiPM.
7. The video must be unedited and must be announced with the title and composer before playing.
8. The program must be played by heart.
Passive Participants
There is the option, to participate in the Berlin international Piano Masterclass as passive participant. You will be a guest at the Berlin Masterclass 2025, attend all masterclasses, ask questions to the professors, and be part of the course. You will also receive up to 3 tickets to the final concert at the Philharmonie. You will not play in lessons, publicly perform in the final concert, nor in the Masterclasses.
Regulations
- The participants agree to the broadcast on YouTube, homepage, social media and possibly recordings on CD and DVD or broadcasts of their live performance.
- All Masterclasses and Concerts are open to the public.
- If a participant has been selected to take part in the Berlin International Masterclass, he is obliged to take part in all events of the festival, as well as the Masterclasses of other participants, joint dinners and workshops. If this rule is broken, the festival reserves the right to exclude the participant from the final concert in the Philharmonie.
- By registering for the festival, each participant agrees to be part of the Berlin Masterclass Network.
- Each participant agrees that their name and photo will be published on flyers, brochures, the social media and the festival website and will be visible to the public, also as part of the Berlin Masterclass Network.
Costs and Fees
The cost of the participating in the Berlin international Piano Masterclass is €3,000.00. In some cases a half scholarship or possibly even a full scholarship is available for exceptionally talented pianists. By registering, the participant undertakes to pay the participation fee by January 25th if the participant is admitted to the festival. Whether the participant will be admitted to the festival will be decided by January 10, 2025 and will be communicated to the participant personally and published on the website. The participant undertakes to pay the participation fee by January 15th. The participant will receive further information about this via email.
The cost of the participating in the Berlin international Piano Masterclass as a passive participant is €1,000.00.
Furthermore, there is a registration fee of €60.00 for each participant who applies to take part in the Masterclass. If the participant is not accepted for participation in the festival, the registration fee will not be refunded.
